There is a national organization called Camp Quest that sponsors summer camps around the country that emphasize secular humanist principles. In a break away from many traditional summer camp programs, there is no religious or faith-based ideology.

The nearest camp quest is in the Smokey Mountains sponsored by the Tennessee Rationalists. Camp Quest also has locations in Ohio, Minnesota, Ontario, Michigan, and California.

They have not yet updated their website with information about the upcoming 2008 camp, but as soon as they do I will post that information here. Last year they held the camp during June

[ KIDS ]
Children age 8 - 13 are eligible to register as campers. Youths of 14 - 15 may register as Counselors in Training, and youths aged 16 - 17 may register as Jr. Assistant Counselors.

[ ADULTS ]
Anyone aged 18 or over can apply to be a volunteer which will include either being a counselor or leading a workshop. I plan to volunteer this coming summer.

[ACTIVITIES]
They engage in many of the usual out door activities you would expect from a summer camp with additional activities that address secular humanism and rational thought. Here are a few of the activities they have listed on their website.

* Salamander Hunting
* Invisible Pink Unicorn Hunt
* Philosophy Cafe
* Campfire making
* Tree species identification
* Bird watching
* Learning survival techniques
* Team-building activities
* Nature hikes
* Dodge ball
* Swimming
* Learning to play recorder
* Campfires
* Sing-alongs
* Photography
* Communication Skills
* Freethinker Jeopardy
* Magic Show
* Chess
* Crafts
* Designing blind and double-blind experiments

Registration details and volunteer information can all be found on their website listed below.
